Fire Safety

The covenants clearly state "Open fires and fireworks shall not be permitted within the boundaries of the estates".

Fire Safety Checklist

Do you have a minimum of 30 feet of non-combustible area around your cabin?

Define and create a defensible space which is the area between your cabin and the surrounding wildlands where the vegetation has been modified to reduce the wildfire threat.  You will also want a defensible space around you propane tank.

Does your landscaping include fire resistant vegetation? (see trees and wildflower info)

Interrupt layers of flammable vegetation with low or nonflammable ground cover materials such as rock or other nonflammable items.

Have overcrowded or weakened trees been thinned or removed from your property and have low-hanging branches been trimmed.?

Remove vegetation that allows a fire to move from lower growing plants to taller ones.

Are the grass and weeds in the area around your cabin kept short?

Are your wood piles and left over building materials at least 30 feet from any structure?

Maintain your defensible space twice a year, Spring and fall.

Is your roof or deck covers free of pine needles and branches?

Remove limbs that have grown over your roof and especially anything near your chimney.

Is you lot marked with at least the lot number.

Have you checked your roof lately for damages that may have been caused during the winter.

Do you have an emergency checklist in the event of a wildfire. Do you have a planned escape route.  Do you have  a place for family members to meet if separated.

Have you checked with you local insurance company to make sure that you are in compliance with their requirements.
